Notes

Enterprise ERP and business suite. Shifting from subscription to AI consumption pricing with AI Units (~7 EUR/unit, prepaid annually, no rollover).

CEO Christian Klein (March 2026): "It would be foolish to still charge subscription base, because AI is so powerful that it will automate a lot of tasks."

AI Units

Three agent tiers with different unit costs per step:

  • Basic: 0.005 AI Units/step
  • Standard: 0.01 AI Units/step
  • Advanced: 0.025 AI Units/step

Prepaid annually, no rollover. This is SAP's mechanism for transitioning from per-seat SaaS to consumption-based AI pricing without abruptly breaking existing contracts.

API Lockdown (April 2026)

Updated API policy prohibits third-party AI agents from interacting with SAP systems outside SAP-endorsed architectures. Bars autonomous AI systems that "plan, select, or execute sequences of API calls" without approval. Combined with ServiceNow's Action Fabric, this represents enterprise vendors building toll gates for the agentic wave.
